Jesus is the only answer and those who come to him will find what they need.
“Answer? What was the question!?”
- how do we obtain forgiveness of our sins?
- in whom do we have hope?
- where is the truth?
All of these questions are answered in the Lord Jesus Christ. Come unto me, all that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11.28). Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14.6).
Three Saviors Compared
This table compares three views of the Savior’s work (what he did and its effects). The issue of his being (his nature, where he came from, etc.) is the subject of an upcoming article.
|The Lord Jesus, by his perfect obedience, has fully satisfied divine justice (Romans 3.25-26; Ephesians 5.2); and purchased, not only reconciliation, but an inheritance of eternal life (Ephesians 1.11; Hebrews 10.14), for those given him (John 17.2).To all those for whom Christ has purchased redemption, he does certainly and effectually apply and communicate this redemption (John 6.37,39); making intercession for them (Romans 8.34), and revealing to them in the word the way of salvation (Ephesians 1.7-9); effectually persuading them by his Spirit to believe and obey (Romans 8.30; 2Thessalonians 2.13-14).||We don’t need to be saved from anything in the spiritual / eternal sense; we just need to be ‘saved’ from present bad circumstances and bad habits.||‘The errand of Jesus to earth was to bring his brethren and sisters back into the presence of the Father; he has done his part of the work, and it remains for us to do ours … ‘ (Brigham Young in Doctrines from the Prophets, Burton, p. 262).’… Very gladly would the Lord give to everyone eternal life, but since that blessing can come only on merit—through the faithful performance of duty—only those who are worthy shall receive it’ (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 2, Joseph Fielding Smith, pp. 4-5).|
|The Bible says Jesus saves:… thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins (Mathew 1.21). Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4.12).
To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins (Acts 10.43).
|The Bible warns do not be deceived; this life is not all there is:If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. (1Corinthians 15.19) what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? [i.e., if Christ has not risen and thus we have no hope of resurrection, cf. 1Cor 15.18] let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. (1Corinthians 15.32)||The Bible says the eternal Son became man not to make salvation possible, but to actually accomplish salvation:[God] hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. (2Timothy 1.9) all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. (John 6.39)|
We urge you to seek the only one who can provide forgiveness, hope, and the truth; indeed only the Lord Jesus Christ can give your soul rest and fulfill the promise of eternal life (Matthew 11.29). All other paths ignore the true nature of the questions or they lead you away from the one path that leads to the one Savior.
